Ann Arbor, Michigan being the first city in the United States to require all public restrooms provide free pads and tampons.

Congratulations to Ann Arbor, Michigan for being the first city in the United States to require all public restrooms provide free pads and tampons.

Ann Arbor recognizes, as all cities and towns should, that having access to period products is a human and healthcare right.

On average it will cost a menstruator over $2,000 to purchase period products during their lifetime. This is not financially feasible for all.

"A study in St. Louis, Missouri published in 2019 found nearly two-thirds of low-income women could not afford the products at least once within the past year."

Not having access to period products affects access to education and work, which ultimately impacts a menstruators financial stability.

My only hope is that other cities and towns follow Ann Arbor's lead.
